It drives me crazy when you make an additional principal payment on a loan and the loan company's default action is to NOT apply it to principal but rather apply it as if you made a whole bunch of pre-payments. This happens even when I ask to them apply a certain amount to principal on the check memo. So now I have to waste time calling in to ask them to change it.
The default action should be to apply any extra payment to principal because I'm sure that is by the more common reason for paying extra on a loan. In fact, I can't think of a good reason for making a bunch of minimum payment pre-payments. Why would you possibly do that? They make the same amount of interest on your loan, AND they get to take your pre-payments and put them in the bank and make interest on them.
In the specific case today, it happens to be a mortgage loan. I tried to call in and spent a long time trying to get through the automated "press 8 to press 2" section because obviously the automated section won't be able to help me with this. Finally I get through and it looks like I'm on hold for a person and then suddenly a recorded voice says:
"We are upgrading our phone system for your convenience, please call back at a later date," followed by a hang up.
Nice. Does this happen to anyone else?

urh!!!!!!! I feel your frustration! Take this example: Fly to London and then supposed to fly to Denmark, but you unfortunately land on the day that Heathrow has a terror scare and then you miss your flight and they lose yourbags. So you spend two weeks on vacation without bags - and then whenever you call British Airways, you press 2, press 8, are rrouted through the system and then hung up on because "the system is overloaded" - not one human being was able to speak to me in two weeks. grrrrrrrrrrr
Now we are home and still no bags and no human. Finally spoke to American Airlines (not BRitish Airways that lost thebags) and they filled me in that BA had over 20,000 bags to rescan and get to people from that week and that they were rerouting the scanning through other airports in Europe such as Milan. So, apparently, our three bags are touring Europe. Could one person at BA have told me this in the last two weeks????? Amessage on the website????????? grrr...
Wow, that is incredible. Did you have to buy clothes and stuff?
caroline's friend came from the states last week and BA lost her and her luggage for 4 days. they said she could spend 50 euro that BA would reimburse. 50 euro for 4 days. She also has a 2 year old. We could not find out if the 50 euros was to share or per person. The 2 years was charged for her seat so we surmised that it was 50 euro a per. Winning airlines. Don't even ask me what happend on the phone.
Haven't been over here in awhile. Glad to see you're still at it.
Have a great week!
Damon,
Ive heard this from more than one person - BA and luggage dont mix. We couldnt even get a human to give us an amount. Did she get her bags? We are still without our bags - 2 weeks later. grrrrrr. I begin the letter writing process today - first to be reimbursed for the hotel, train and food for the cancelled flight and then for the bags and emergency items purchased inSweden - is it per person per day??? the website says something like "what ever is reasonable" - uhuh.
yea, she got her bags like her 4th day in Paris. good thing too cause the little one was missing her blankie. whatever is reasonable. You are on vacation, so anything is reasonable no??
