I Don't Get It

If Major League Baseball is a private organization, why is Congress involved in trying to figure out who used performance enhancing drugs?

Is this a criminal investigation with people on trial for illegal drug use? Doesn't seem like it. Can someone explain this to me?

I want to know why we are watching congress investigate this on TV, gavel to gavel, as they say, but when they discussed and voted on giving immunity to corporations to spy on us and listen in our calls, that never made the news??????????????????????

As I understand it (and I am probably wrong, as usual!), Congress exempted Major League Baseball from anti-trust legislation, and as a result has watchdog rights over MLB.
